Hong Kong braces for heavy showers and thunderstorms in the coming hours

25th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Observatory issued a weather advisory at 9am, warning that localised thundery showers are likely to develop within the next few hours. These showers are expected to be intense and heavy at times, necessitating caution from the public. A trough of low pressure over Guangdong’s coast is responsible for the showers and thunderstorms currently affecting the region. This morning, the eastern part of Hong Kong experienced rainfall exceeding 10 millimetres.

Today’s weather forecast for Hong Kong predicts a predominantly cloudy sky with intermittent showers. Some of these showers will be accompanied by squally thunderstorms. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 27 degrees Celsius. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds will be blowing across the city.

Looking ahead, tomorrow’s showers are anticipated to be even more intense at times. Showers and thunderstorms are also expected over the weekend. The trough of low pressure will persist over Guangdong in the coming days, leading to heavy showers and squally thunderstorms in the region. However, as the trough of low pressure gradually moves away early next week, the intensity of showers in the area is expected to slightly decrease. Nevertheless, another trough of low pressure is predicted to bring unsettled weather to southern China by midweek next week.
