Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow Hoi-mei’s reported death sparks concern and urgent calls for clarification

    11th December 2023 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow Hoi-mei, known for her prominent roles in TVB series during the late 1980s to 1990s, including “The Breaking Point” and “Time Before Time,” was reported to have passed away today (11th). The news quickly spread on social media, leaving fans in shock. Media outlets reached out to her representatives, but calls were abruptly ended when the topic was mentioned. Furthermore, when some staff members were asked about the actress, they claimed to be occupied with other engagements and swiftly ended the calls. However, a friend of Kathy Chow, upon verification, revealed that they had been in contact just yesterday and were unaware of any concerning developments. The friend also attempted to reach out to Kathy Chow directly but was unable to connect. Distressed fans have pleaded, “Sister, please come out and debunk the rumours!”

    Despite gradually withdrawing from the entertainment industry in recent years, Kathy Chow has maintained interactions with her fans through social media, sharing glimpses of her daily life, including her pets, cooking, and travel adventures. The sudden news of her reported passing has sent shockwaves throughout various circles.

    Kathy Chow Hoi-mei, born on 6th December, 1966, in Hong Kong, gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Zhou Zhiruo in the 1994 Taiwanese adaptation of “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber.” Her talent and popularity reached their peak during the late 1980s and 1990s, where she played pivotal roles in numerous TVB series. It is worth noting that Kathy Chow is of Manchu ethnicity, descended from the Gūwalgiya clan of the Bordered White Banner.

    Having participated in the Miss Hong Kong pageant in the past, Kathy Chow continued to hone her modelling skills and acted in TVB series during the late 1980s and 1990s. She later joined ATV in 1998, where she occasionally appeared in Hong Kong films and made appearances at awards shows. Seeking new opportunities, Kathy Chow left ATV in 2001 and ventured to Beijing.

    After a hiatus, in March 2008, Kathy Chow returned to TVB and starred in the action-packed series “E.U.,” a sequel to “The Academy” and “On the First Beat.”
