Hong Kong actress Angelababy’s English name suspected to be banned permanently

2nd December 2022 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong actress Angelababy (Yeung Wing) recently attended the Weibo Vision Conference 2022 and was given the ‘Annual Popular Person Award’. Unexpectedly, when the ceremony officially started, Angelababy’s English name was dropped and she was called “Yeung Wing” (her Chinese name), throughout the whole event. Yeung Wing has been active in the entertainment industry for many years under the stage name Angelababy.

Many people suspect that this move was in tandem with the previously announced new ban on radio and television programmes against use of English name by artistes and singers. However, in fact, senior screenwriter Wang Hailin revealed on Weibo in September this year that Yeung Wing could no longer be called Angelababy, and Jackie Li must use her Chinese name “Li Jiaqi” in the future. Wang said that Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has issued a new order recently stating that all artists must resort to their Chinese names.
