7th June 2023 – (Beijing) Honduran President Xiomara Castro is set to embark on a state visit to China from 9th to 14th June, according to an announcement made by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. Castro also confirmed her upcoming China trip in a Twitter post, stating that “The refounding of Honduras demands new political, scientific, technical, commercial and cultural horizons.”

This visit marks the first time a Honduran president has visited China since the two countries established formal diplomatic ties in March. Speaking at a regular press conference on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin emphasized that China and Honduras have been delivering on their commitments and working together to build bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and common development.

Wang further stated that “It fully shows that to stand for the one-China principle is the right thing to do, which has the overwhelming support of the international community and represents the prevailing trend of the world. The establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras serves the fundamental and long-term interests of the two peoples.”

Castro’s visit is expected to strengthen the existing ties between China and Honduras and pave the way for further cooperation and exchanges in various fields such as politics, economy, trade, and culture. The visit also highlights China’s commitment to expanding its diplomatic relations and fostering good relations with countries around the world.
