19th March 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) will open a major new exhibition on 20th March as part of the city’s annual “Art March” celebrations, presenting a sweeping survey of contemporary local creativity.
Titled Live: Hong Kong Art Exhibition, the show brings together 19 artists who are shaping the territory’s current artistic landscape, from established figures to emerging talents. Working across painting, ink, ceramics, sculpture, video, installation and multimedia, the participants offer a wide-ranging exploration of Hong Kong’s stylistic diversity and creative vitality.
Staged on the museum’s second floor, the exhibition unfolds through four thematic strands: Urban Stage, Landscape Reimagined, Virtual Reality and Transformation. Together, the works examine Hong Kong’s identity as a cultural crossroads, where Eastern and Western influences intersect to produce a distinctive artistic voice rooted in the city’s own urban fabric and lived experience.
Featured artists include Chu Hing-wah, Angela Yuen, Inkgo Lam, Ross Yau, Hung Keung, Leung Mee-ping, Joseph Chan, Chan Wai-lap, Chan Kwan-lok, Jess Leung, Raymond Fung, Wong Hau-kwei, anothermountainman (Stanley Wong Ping-pui), Wong Chung-yu, Wong Chun-hei, Wong Lai-ching, Fiona Hung, Hung Fai and Law Yuk-mui. Many of the works draw inspiration from Hong Kong’s dense cityscape, shifting skylines and everyday rhythms.
Beyond the main display, the museum is offering visitors a closer look at the artists’ creative processes. A special section titled Live: Inspiration, located in The Wing (Lower) on the ground floor, transforms the gallery into a series of miniature studio environments. Here, audiences can discover the materials, references and personal influences that inform each artist’s practice.
For the first time, HKMoA is also introducing Live: The Studio, an open studio initiative inviting artists to undertake residencies within the museum. Through live demonstrations, workshops and talks, visitors will be able to observe artworks evolving from initial concept to finished piece, encouraging a more intimate understanding of contemporary practice.
The museum has partnered with the Community Art Network to enhance educational outreach. A programme of videos, artist interviews and multisensory guided tours aims to make contemporary Hong Kong art more accessible to audiences of all backgrounds, fostering broader engagement and appreciation.
Live: Hong Kong Art Exhibition runs from 20th March 2026 to 5th May 2027 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Admission is free.
