29th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has announced the release of two additional spatial datasets via Open Application Programming Interface (API) for public access. These datasets provide information on physical branches and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) of 20 retail banks in Hong Kong. The datasets are now available for download from the HKMA’s Open API portal.

The HKMA encourages app developers, technology service providers, and the general public to utilize this open information to create innovative and practical applications. By making these datasets accessible, the HKMA aims to foster financial inclusion and facilitate greater transparency in the banking sector.

In collaboration with the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), the HKMA has also worked towards showcasing the locations of physical branches and ATMs of the 20 retail banks on a digital map. This initiative allows users to easily access and visualise the spatial information through the adoption of these two new datasets. The digital map can be found on the OGCIO’s Open Data Portal.
