25th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong singer Hubert Wu, appeared in Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts today (25th) with his lawyer, where he immediately pleaded guilty to charges related to the discovery of 100 heated tobacco sticks and related smoking devices in his luggage upon his return from mainland China on 28th January earlier this year. The court fined him HK$5,000 and confiscated all the seized items.

The judge took into consideration the defence’s written plea and similar cases, noting that the quantity of heated tobacco products found on the defendant was relatively small, indicating personal use. Moreover, it was mentioned that Wu had been working long-term in mainland China, possibly resulting in a lack of immediate awareness of relevant Hong Kong regulations. Considering Wu’s clean criminal record, the court exercised leniency by imposing a fine, with the payment required within three days.
