HK logs 5,387 COVID-19 cases today, 12 more deaths reported


23rd September 2022 – (Hong Kong) The Centre for Health Protection said that there were 156 imported cases and 5,231 local COVID-19 cases today. Total COVID-19 cases reported today reached 5,387.

Among the 156 imported cases, 49 cases were found at the airport while 564 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels or community isolation facilities between 1st day and 3rd day after arrival. 38 cases were identified between 4th day and 7th day after arrival while 5 cases were identified in the community after 7 days of arrival.

Meanwhile, new cases were found in 6 residential care homes. 25 residents in total have been listed as close contacts.

552 new cases were reported at 391 schools. In addition, 13 classes at 12 schools have been ordered to suspend for one week.

Total cases involving Omicron variant BA.5 in the community have increased to 79.9%.

In addition, Dr. Gladys Kwan from the Hospital Authority said that 12 more deaths were reported in public hospitals today involving 9 men and 3 women aged 45 – 93. 4 of them did not receive 3 vaccination shots.

Dr. Kwan said that around 2,228 patients are still being hospitalised.
