16th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr. Albert Au from the Centre for Health Protection said at the daily 4.30pm media conference today that there were 272 imported cases and 4,890 local COVID-19 cases today of which 1,734 cases were detected during nucleic acid testing while 3,156 cases were recorded via rapid antigen tests and subsequently verified. Total COVID-19 cases reported today reached 5,162.
Among the 272 imported cases, 99 cases were found at the airport while 90 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels and community isolation facilities. 83 cases were identified in the community.
10 residents tested positive for COVID-19 at 7 residential care homes for elderly while 3 residents and 2 employees at 4 residential care homes for the handicapped today.
92 cases were recorded at 92 schools today involving 71 students and 21 teaching staff. A kindergarten in Tai Po has been requested to suspend one class for one week due to 2 COVID-19 cases detected.
In addition, Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that 10 more deaths were reported today involving 6 men and 4 women aged 60-97. 2 of them were from elderly care homes. 70% of them have not completed 3 doses of vaccination. Another 86-year-old male patient who received only one vaccination shot passed away at home on 4th August. So far, Hong Kong has recorded a total of 9,367 COVID-19-related death cases.
Dr. Lau added that around 1,813 patients were still being hospitalised. 4 new patients are in critical condition while 4 new patients are in serious condition. 27 of the existing patients are still in critical condition and 26 of them are in serious condition while 9 of them are being treated at Intensive Care Units.
An unvaccinated 27-month-old baby boy is one of the 4 patients in critical condition after being infected with COVID-19 and he is being treated at the Paediatric intensive care unit at Princess Margaret Hospital. His condition has improved and stabilised.
The other 5-year-old girl infected with COVID-19 in Tuen Mun Hospital is still in critical condition.
209 patients are still being hospitalised while 176 patients have been discharged. 6 new cases were detected during admission screening. 12 patients/employees in the same ward have been listed as close contacts.
Meanwhile, another 110 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 34 newly recovered employees have returned to work.
1 patient care assistant tested positive for COVID-19 at Tuen Mun Hospital. 9 more patients and 4 more staff also tested positive during contact tracing. Another patient tested positive at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital. 5 more patients and 1 employee also tested positive during contact tracing.
