15th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr. Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection said at the daily 4.30pm media conference today that there were 197 imported cases and 4,699 local COVID-19 cases today of which 1,594 cases were detected during nucleic acid testing while 3,105 cases were recorded via rapid antigen tests and subsequently verified. Total COVID-19 cases reported today reached 4,896.
Among the 197 imported cases, 98 cases were found at the airport while 54 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels and community isolation facilities. 33 cases were identified after the completion of 4-day quarantine at designated hotels. 12 of them were detected between 4th and 7th days in the community. 21 of them arrived from U.K., 29 of them arrived from India, 14 arrived from U.S., 14 from Canada, 13 arrived from Thailand, 12 arrived from Philippines, 12 arrived from Singapore, etc.
2 residents and 1 employee tested positive for COVID-19 at 3 residential care homes for elderly today.
147 cases were recorded at 110 schools today involving 111 students and 36 teaching staff. One kindergarten in Sha Tin has been requested to suspend classes for one week due to COVID-19 case detected.
In addition, Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that 4 more deaths were reported today involving 4 men aged 63-91. 3 of them have not completed 3 doses of vaccination. All of them lived with family members. So far, Hong Kong has recorded a total of 9,356 COVID-19-related death cases.
Dr. Lau added that around 1,783 patients were still being hospitalised. 2 new patients are in critical condition while 6 new patients are in serious condition. 29 of the existing patients are still in critical condition and 29 of them are in serious condition while 9 of them are being treated at Intensive Care Units.
An unvaccinated 27-month-old baby boy is currently in critical condition after being infected with COVID-19 and he is being treated at the Paediatric intensive care unit at Princess Margaret Hospital. His CT value was recorded at 14.8 and the baby boy also developed croup symptoms during admission. The other 5-year-old girl infected with COVID-19 in Tuen Mun Hospital is still in critical condition.
132 patients are still being hospitalised while 104 patients have been discharged. 9 new cases were detected during admission screening. 13 patients/employees in the same ward have been listed as close contacts.
Meanwhile, another 99 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 36 newly recovered employees have returned to work.
