7th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr. Chuang Shuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection said at the daily 4.30pm media conference today that there were 239 imported cases and 4,035 local COVID-19 cases today of which 1,410 cases were detected during nucleic acid testing while 2,625 cases were recorded via rapid antigen tests and subsequently verified.
Among the 239 imported cases, 109 cases were found at the airport while 100 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels. 30 cases were identified after the completion of 7-day quarantine at designated hotels. 22 arrived from U.K., 17 cases arrived from the United States, 24 arrived from the Philippines, 35 arrived from India, 14 arrived from Singapore, 13 arrived from Thailand etc.
1 resident tested positive for COVID-19 at 1 residential care home for elderly while 3 residents at 2 respective residential care homes for the handicapped also tested positive.
2 students and 1 teacher in one class at 1 kindergarten in Tseung Kwan O tested positive. The class has to be suspended for one week.
In addition, Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that 5 more deaths were reported today and they involved 2 male and 3 female patients aged 65 – 94 years old. One of them was from residential care home. Only one of them was fully vaccinated. All of them had chronic illnesses. So far, Hong Kong has recorded a total of 9,327 COVID-19 related deaths.
Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that around 1,485 patients were still being hospitalised. 4 new patients were in critical condition while 5 new patients were in serious condition. 25 of the existing patients are still in critical condition and 20 of them are in serious condition. 7 of them are still being treated in Intensive Care Unit.
138 patients are still being hospitalised while 114 patients have been discharged. 1 new case was detected during admission screening. 1 patient/employee in the same ward have been listed as close contact.
Meanwhile, 26,526 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 25,933 of them have returned to work after recovering.
