HK logs 2,318 COVID-19 cases today, 31 new suspected cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 added


1st July 2022 – (Hong Kong)  Dr Albert Au from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health announced at 4.30pm today that there were 153 imported cases and 2,165 local COVID-19 cases today. Total daily cases recorded today reached 2,318.

Among the 162 imported cases, 85 cases were found at Temporary sampling centre at the airport while 47 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels. 21 cases were identified after the completion of quarantine at designated hotels.

2 employees and 3 residents were detected in 4 residential care homes.

No new cases were detected in schools today.

Another 31 new suspected cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 were recorded. 19 of the cases were of unknown origin. 6 cases were family members of the 19 cases.

In addition, 36 new suspected cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.4 or BA.5 were detected. 19 of them were imported while 6 were local cases of unknown sources. 3 of them was epidemiologically linked to one of the 6 cases of unknown sources. A suspected cluster outbreak occurred in a hotpot restaurant in Kwun Tong.

A total of 9,189 patients have passed away since the beginning of fifth wave and 1 new death was reported by Health Authority yesterday.

Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that more than 666 patients were still being hospitalised. No new patients were in critical and serious conditions. One 88-year-old female patients who lived in elderly care home passed away. She suffered from chronic illnesses.

A total of 94 patients have recovered and 79 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. 2 new cases were detected during admission screening. 4 patients in the same ward have been listed as close contacts.

Meanwhile, 24,382 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 24,078 of them have returned to work after recovering.
