HK logs 1,873 COVID-19 cases while 464 new cases detected in 335 schools today


27th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr Albert Au from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health announced at 4.30pm today that there were 154 imported cases and 1,719 local COVID-19 cases today. 609 of the local cases were detected via nucleic acid testing while 1,110 cases were detected via Rapid Antigen Tests.

Total daily cases recorded today reached 1,873.

In total, COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong have reached 1,227,119.

Among the 154 imported cases, 70 cases were found at Temporary sampling centre at the airport while 58 cases were found at designated quarantine hotels. 26 cases were identified after the completion of quarantine at designated hotels.

5 new cases involving 2 residents and 4 employees vaccinated with 3 doses against COVID-19 were detected in 3 residential care homes for elderly in Sai Kung (1 employee), Wong Tai Sin (1 employee) and Yuen Long (2 residents and 2 employees) respectively.

464 new cases were detected in 335 schools today. 110 cases of the total tested positive this morning. Cluster outbreaks were detected in 7 schools and the Education Bureau has requested affected classes to be suspended.

Another 15 new cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 were recorded. 3 of the cases were of unknown origin.

3 more cases were linked to cluster outbreak in Victoria Harbour Restaurant at Shop 312, L3, Chelsea Heights, Shek Pai Tau Path, Tuen Mun have tested positive. So far, 41 customers and 4 close contacts have tested positive. The air changes per hour in the restaurant have been found to fall below the standard requirement by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.

In addition, 9 new suspected cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.4 or BA.5 were detected. 6 of them were imported while 3 were local cases. 2 of the local cases were of unknown sources.

A total of 9,185 patients have passed away since the beginning of fifth wave and no new deaths were reported by Health Authority yesterday.

Dr. Lau Ka-hin from the Hospital Authority said that more than 625 patients were still being hospitalised. No new patients were reported in critical condition and 3 new patients were in serious condition.

A total of 52 patients have recovered and 44 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. 1 new case was detected during admission screening. 1 patient has been listed as close contact.

Meanwhile, 24,193 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 23,934 of them have returned to work after recovering.

In addition, 1 discharged patient from Prince of Wales Hospital under home quarantine tested positive today. So far, a total of 5 patients and 4 employees have been recorded.
