HK logs 1,447 COVID-19 cases, 7 more new local Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 cases recorded


22nd June 2022 – (Hong Kong) Dr. Chuang Chuk-kwan from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health announced at 4.30pm today that there were 124 imported cases and 1,323 local COVID-19 cases today comprising 583 confirmed via nucleic acid tests and 740 cases confirmed via Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) online declaration platform. Total cases recorded today are 1,447. This is the sixth consecutive day where daily cases have breached 1,000.

5 positive cases were reported in two residential care homes for the elderly and 3 residential care homes for the handicapped respectively. 6 residents need to be quarantined.

Meanwhile, 190 more new cases (159 students and 31 teaching staff) were recorded in 165 schools.

7 new local cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 were recorded today. So far, a total of 204 imported cases involving Omicron sub-variant BA.2.12.1 were recorded in Hong Kong. Another suspected local BA.4 or BA.5 case was reported, the patient is a FedEx employee who mainly worked at the airport.

A total of 9,184 patients have passed away since the beginning of fifth wave and one new death was reported by Health Authority yesterday.

Dr. Sara Ho from the Hospital Authority said that more than 509 patients were still being hospitalised. 3 new patients were reported in critical and 1 new patient was reported to be in serious condition. A 64-year-old female patient who was vaccinated with 2 doses passed away. She had lung cancer which spread to the other parts of her body.

A total 73 patients have recovered and 60 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. 1 new case was detected during admission screening. 6 patients in the same ward were listed as close contacts.

Meanwhile, 23,948 employees under Hospital Authority have tested positive for COVID-19. 23,789 of them have returned to work after recovering.
