HK Government refutes malicious online rumour that Carrie Lam and other govt officials were not injected with CoronaVAC vaccine today

22nd February 2021 – (Hong Kong) Chief Executive Lam led members of the Legislative Council and government officials to receive vaccination produced by SINOVAC this afternoon.

However, some netizens questioned the design, length and size of the vaccine bottle, which was different from the CoronaVAC vaccine shown by the government earlier and they claimed that it was not CoronaVAC vaccine. The government clarified through its Facebook page this evening stressing that the Chief Executive and others were vaccinated today using CoronaVAC vaccine.

It also pointed out that the other two vaccines (including BioNTech and AstraZeneca) purchased by the government have not yet arrived in Hong Kong. The government condemned malicious dissemination of rumour and appealed to the public not to believe in false news.

The government appealed to the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19 early to protect themselves and others, with a view to safeguarding public health in the community and restoring the local economy and people’s livelihood to normal later.
