3rd October 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Government has welcomed an agreement under which New World Development will return the 11 SKIES commercial project at the airport’s SKYCITY to Airport Authority Hong Kong, describing the deal as a commercially grounded arrangement that gives the Authority a clear roadmap and timetable to assume control and reposition the asset. Transport and Logistics Secretary Mable Chan said the outcome allows the Authority to move quickly on relaunch plans.

Mable Chan added that the airport city should not be viewed merely as a stand‑alone cluster of retail, dining and leisure venues, but as a place where travellers can experience a compact showcase of Hong Kong’s commercial energy, entertainment and exhibitions without entering the urban core. She said the Authority aims to develop a new landmark centred on high‑end aviation industries, premium consumption, arts and culture, tourism and even water‑based activities, with its subsidiaries and a dedicated team set to upgrade and transform the original mix of offices, shops and restaurants by injecting more experiential attractions.

According to Chan, the refreshed concept will be aligned with other initiatives, including the scheduled completion of AsiaWorld‑Expo Phase 2 in 2028 and “smart mobility” measures such as autonomous shuttle services, forming an integrated blueprint for the airport city’s next stage of development.
