HK government gazettes list of general holidays for 2024


25th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Government has announced the list of general holidays for 2024. The list, which was gazetted on 25th May, includes all Sundays, as well as the following public holidays:

  • 1st January: New Year’s Day
  • 10th February: Lunar New Year’s Day
  • 12th February: The third day of Lunar New Year
  • 13th February: The fourth day of Lunar New Year (in substitution for the second day falling on a Sunday)
  • 29th March: Good Friday
  • 30th March: The day following Good Friday
  • 1st April: Easter Monday
  • 4th April: Ching Ming Festival
  • 1st May: Labour Day
  • 15th May: The Birthday of the Buddha
  • 10th June: Tuen Ng Festival
  • 1st July: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day
  • 18th September: The day following the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
  • 1st October: National Day
  • 11th October: Chung Yeung Festival
  • 25th December: Christmas Day
  • 26th December: The first weekday after Christmas Day

As the second day of Lunar New Year in 2024 falls on a Sunday, the fourth day of Lunar New Year will be designated as a general holiday in substitution.

The announcement of the general holidays for 2024 provides both employers and employees with advance notice of the days that will be observed as public holidays in Hong Kong. This allows for better planning of work schedulesvacation time, and family activities.
