HK Customs seizes HK$2 million worth of suspected smuggled food ingredients

26th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a major anti-smuggling operation today, Hong Kong Customs conducted a successful operation at the Lok Ma Chau Control Point, uncovering a suspected smuggling case involving a cross-boundary private car. The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant batch of high-value food ingredients, including birds’ nests, dried abalones, dried fish maws, and dried sea cucumbers, with an estimated market value of approximately $2 million.

Customs officers stationed at the Lok Ma Chau Control Point intercepted an outbound private car for inspection. Upon thorough examination, they discovered the concealed batch of suspected smuggled food ingredients, weighing a total of around 86 kilograms. The officers wasted no time in confiscating the illicit goods.

Following the seizure, a 39-year-old male driver, believed to be connected to the smuggling case, was promptly arrested by Customs authorities. The individual is now under investigation as law enforcement agencies work to uncover further details about the smuggling operation.
