4th September 2019 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Bar Association and The Law Society of Hong Kong issued statements yesterday respectively to call upon government to set up an independent inquiry commission to investigate police brutality so that confidence in the force can be restored.
Hong Kong Bar Association expressed that police force have deviated from their standard protocol by using excessive force when making arrest at Prince Edward MTR Station. Police force have also deployed tear gas rounds and fired rubber bullets at protesters within close distance inside MTR Stations. Also, many police officers on duty failed to display their warrant cards resulting in the failure of the public to identify the perpetrators. A dialogue session between police with civilians is also proposed to restore peace and order in the society.
