HK airport climbs to 11th place from 33rd in global rankings as Singapore’s Changi relinquishes top position

Hong Kong International Airport

18th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) According to the latest Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024, Hong Kong International Airport has made an impressive leap, climbing 22 places to secure the 11th spot. This surge comes as Hong Kong recovers from its pandemic-induced downturn, with a notable increase in passenger traffic.

Meanwhile, Singapore Changi Airport, a perennial leader in the airport rankings, has been dethroned from its top position after a 12-year reign, edged out by Doha’s Hamad International Airport. Hamad International, marking its 10th year of operations, has been named the Best Airport in the World for the third time, a testament to its continued excellence in passenger service and facilities.

The awards continue to highlight the dominance of Asian airports in the global aviation sector. Seoul Incheon not only secured third place but was also recognised as the most family-friendly airport of 2024. Tokyo’s Haneda and Narita airports rounded out the top five, maintaining their high standards and favourable passenger reviews.

Europe also had a strong presence in the top 10, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich, and Istanbul airports all holding steady among the elite. Conversely, U.S. airports lagged behind, with Seattle-Tacoma experiencing a drop of six places to 24th, reflecting a broader trend of American facilities falling short of the top global standards.

Other noteworthy shifts included New York’s JFK Airport which fell five places to 93rd, while LaGuardia made a significant jump from 57th to 33rd. London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports also saw upward movements.
