HK actress Carina Lau condemned by Chinese netizens for paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on Instagram


    20th September 2022 – (Hong Kong) 55-year-old Hong Kong actress Carina Lau was condemned by Chinese netizens by sharing to be criticised by Chinese netizens for sharing a photo of Queen Elizabeth II on her Instagram account on 9th September. She described the Queen as an outstanding woman who presided over a long and stable reign in a rapidly changing society. Her passing is an irreplaceable loss in our era.

    Even though she did not share the same post on her Weibo account, Chinese netizens still commented under her latest Weibo post to criticise her for paying tribute to the Queen. Some even told her not to return to China. They reminded her of the Opium Wars in the mid-19th century. It was fought between China and Great Britain from 1839 to 1842. 

    Carina Lau Kar-ling is a Hong Kong-Canadian actress and singer. She started her acting career in TVB, before going on to achieve success in films after 2nd year at the college. 

    She has been in a relationship with Tony Leung Chiu-wai since 1989 after working together on a Hong Kong production of Run For Your Wife. They married on 21st July 2008 at the COMO Uma Paro hotel in Bhutan.  The wedding itself cost more than HK$30 million and Lau’s 12-carat (2.4 g) Cartier wedding ring is worth over HK$10 million.
