HK actor Tony Leung appointed as jury president for the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival

    18th May 2024 – (Tokyo) Tony Leung Chiu-wai, the renowned Hong Kong actor and recipient of multiple Hong Kong Film Awards, has been appointed as the jury president for the highly anticipated 37th Tokyo International Film Festival. The festival is scheduled to take place from October 28th to November 6th, and the announcement of Leung’s role was made by the organisers today (17th).

    Having participated in the Tokyo Film Festival on several occasions in the past as an actor, Tony Leung expressed great honour in assuming the position of jury president. He emphasized his deep familiarity with Japan, stating that the country holds significant meaning for him in various aspects. Leung’s love for Japanese cinema and culture began at the age of 12 when he started watching Japanese films, and the captivating experiences he had in movie theatres nurtured his passion for the medium. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to serve as the jury president for this year’s festival, aiming to bring surprise and delight to the audience through the selection of compelling and intriguing works.
