11th March 2025 – (Beijing) During the closing session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference held in Beijing on 10th March, actor Donnie Yen, a member of the committee, expressed his frustration with Taiwanese media. This follows recent comments from Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who asserted that Taiwan’s sole designation in the United Nations is as “Chinese Taiwan Province.” Many Taiwanese artists working in mainland China have since supported this statement on social media, prompting the Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council to consider penalties against them.
When confronted by Taiwanese reporters about the potential fines for artists who publicly endorse this view, Yen did not hold back. He remarked, “You are a bad person; why do you keep asking such questions? Unity is definitely necessary!” He further accused the media of having a “dishonest” agenda behind their inquiries.
As the questioning continued, Yen became visibly agitated and attempted to leave, stating, “Do not ask such deliberately provocative questions that set traps for us artists. Your motives are not right.” He then briskly departed without addressing further queries related to Taiwan.
