17th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) A mainland Chinese tourist recently shared her alarming experience while visiting Hong Kong on the popular social media platform Xiaohongshu. The tourist, who remains anonymous, recounted her trip to Hong Kong and specifically highlighted an incident that left her in disbelief, stating that she would think twice before returning to the city. The post quickly garnered attention and sparked a lively discussion among netizens, with many expressing their agreement and empathizing with her sentiments. However, there were also those who countered the argument, questioning the need for such complaints and suggesting that proper research beforehand could have prevented such surprises.

According to the tourist’s post on Xiaohongshu, she detailed her recent trip to Hong Kong, sharing photos of her visit to popular locations such as the Sai Yee Street and Tsim Sha Tsui. She also mentioned taking the MTR and engaging in the popular trend of posing beneath station signs in Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Ma Tei, and Mong Kok for photo opportunities.

However, the tourist expressed her shock at the high prices of the MTR in her post, exclaiming, “I dare not come to Hong Kong again… no one told me the Hong Kong MTR is so expensive!” Her statement resonated with many netizens who agreed with her assessment, commenting on the high cost of living in Hong Kong and expressing their own frustrations. Some pointed out that compared to other countries, Hong Kong’s MTR fares were actually reasonable, while others argued that visitors should have done their research beforehand, as complaining about prices seemed to be a recurring theme amongst tourists.
