11th June 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong is currently experiencing showers associated with a southerly airstream, resulting in significant rainfall across various areas. Lantau Island and parts of the New Territories recorded over 30 millimetres of rainfall this morning, while Tsuen Wan District and Tsing Yi saw rainfall exceeding 70 millimetres. The intensity of showers is expected to increase in some areas over the next few hours, prompting the public to remain vigilant about the changing weather conditions.

The general weather situation is influenced by a southerly airstream, which is bringing showers and thunderstorms to the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea. Locally, heavy rainfall has already been observed, and this pattern is expected to continue.

The afternoon forecast indicates a mainly cloudy sky with a few showers. Some areas may experience heavier showers accompanied by thunderstorms initially. The temperature will be hot during the afternoon, with moderate southerly winds.

Looking ahead, the coming days will see a mix of sunny intervals and a few showers, with the possibility of more showers towards the weekend. A southwesterly airstream will persist along the southern coast of China, resulting in hot and showery conditions. Furthermore, the latter part of the week may bring increased wind activity, squally thunderstorms, and additional showers to the coast of Guangdong.
