24th June 2022 – (Hong Kong) HA Employees Alliance which launched the medical strike action in the early days of the COVID-19 epidemic, announced earlier that it would hold a special general meeting today. It is reported that the members at the meeting have passed the dissolution. Winnie Yu (34), the former chairman of the HA Employees Alliance, was charged with conspiracy to subvert state power because of her participation in the “35+” primary election two years ago, violating the “Hong Kong National Security Law”. She was released on bail last year pending trial. Yu was detained overnight for investigation on suspicion of breaching court bail conditions and remains on remand.
The HA Employees Alliance, was established during the anti-extradition protest in 2019, with a peak of 22,000 members. When the COVID-19 epidemic broke out in early 2020, it expressed its opinions on the government’s anti-epidemic measures many times, and launched a medical strike to urge the government to “close its border”.
