29th November 2023 – (New York) During the evening rush hour on Tuesday, a subway ride turned into a scene of chaos and fear as gunshots rang out, leaving a teenage boy and a middle-aged man wounded. The incident occurred aboard a Manhattan-bound C train in Brooklyn at approximately 5.40pm local time (2240 GMT). Although the altercation that led to the shooting initially caused some tension among passengers, it did not result in widespread panic.

The aftermath of the shooting prompted a two-hour disruption for commuters as law enforcement officials meticulously investigated the crime scene. While the gunman managed to flee, both victims were promptly transported to nearby hospitals, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

This alarming incident adds to the concerning trend of gun violence in New York City. According to the New York Police Department, the city has recorded over 900 shooting incidents this year alone, with Brooklyn accounting for 308 of them as of 8th November, 2023. The staggering numbers highlight the urgent need for enhanced measures to address and prevent such acts of violence.

The memory of a previous subway shooting in Brooklyn remains vivid in the minds of New Yorkers. In April 2022, a man named Frank James opened fire on a subway, injuring ten commuters. The incident garnered significant media attention and fuelled anxiety surrounding gun violence in public spaces.
