Grandma Wong arrested for yelling and chanting slogans in Tseung Kwan O


24th February 2021 – (Hong Kong) During a patrol near Tong Ming Street in Sheung Tak Estate, Tseung Kwan O on 22nd February, the police found a woman yelling and chanting slogans nearby. After the preliminary investigation, the police arrested the woman for misconduct in a public place. It was eventually confirmed that the 64-year-old woman surnamed Wong yesterday was refused bail but she was temporarily released. The police reserved the right to prosecute her again. The case was handed over to Tseung Kwan O Police District Crime Squad for follow-up.

 The popular elderly woman known as ‘Grandma Wong’ who always appeared at each street rally with a British flag has been reported missing from action since 5th August. She was last seen at Tai Koo MTR Station.

Grandma Wong has been active in anti-Beijing protests since Occupy Central in 2014 she has never failed to appear in each protest waving the giant Union Jack flag. The move has underlying implications that linked the British colonial past and its role with regards to Hong Kong.
