12th April 2021 – (Hong Kong) The existing social distancing measures will expire this Wednesday (14th). According to sources, the government will announce this afternoon (12th) the relaxed arrangements for visitations to allow people who have been vaccinated to visit the residential care homes for the elderly after a rapid test is conducted.

Visits to the residential care homes for the elderly have been suspended since July last year since they became the hardest-hit spots of the epidemic. The Social Welfare Department (SWD) has issued several guidelines on suspension of visits and restrictions on residents to go out.

Until recently, the number of local confirmed COVID-19 cases have eased, and family members of residential care homes for the elderly hope to resume visits as soon as possible. According to the guidelines of the Centre for Health Protection on residential care homes and homes for the disabled, it is stated that no visits are allowed except for compassionate reasons. Families can contact residents or staff through other means including telephone or video communication equipment. Institutions should strengthen communication with family members, and clearly explain to them the visit arrangements and restrictions in advance.
