Government confirms extension of gathering ban for 2 weeks, religious gatherings to be exempted, suspension of nightclubs, karaoke & public bathhouses to be extended for 2 weeks

19th May 2020 – (Hong Kong)  Professor Sophia Chan, the incumbent Secretary for Food and Health Bureau expressed at a media conference at 3pm today that Hong Kong Government will extend the gathering ban for another 14 days until 4th June. As for the suspension of businesses including nightclubs, public bathhouses, Party Room and karaoke etc, the suspension will be extended for one week until the 28th of this month.

Training sessions and classes with personal trainer must not exceed 8 people in a group. The distance must be maintained at 1.5 metres. Not more than 8 people shall be allowed to stay at one time at all entertainment venues, game arcade centres and game centres. Occupation at large public venues shall not exceed half of the designated capacity. The gathering ban that prohibits group gatherings of more than eight people in public places will be extended to 4th June and some religious gatherings will be exempted. Exempted worship sites include churches and temples, etc. but food cannot be provided.

Professor Sophia Chan urged the public to seek medical treatment and test as soon as possible if the symptoms are mild. People with medical symptoms can go to the general outpatient clinic for monitoring services. If necessary, they can go to the emergency department for consultation. Private doctors also have plans to arrange for patients to receive free virus testing. The Hospital Authority has studied “additional points” to facilitate the return of sample bottles, and it can also be delivered by express delivery service. There are still sporadic local cases, and the global epidemic is still severe so Hong Kong still needs to take preventive measures.

Meanwhile, the pro-democracy rally originally scheduled on 4th June has been opposed due to existing anti-epidemic measures.
