Google unveils Gemini 1.5 Pro and Trillium at Google I/O 2024

15th May 2024 – (San Francisco) Google made exciting announcements at its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2024, showcasing the latest advancements in its AI model series, Gemini. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of Gemini 1.5 Pro, an upgraded version of their flagship model.

The new Gemini 1.5 Pro boasts an impressive capacity that can handle up to 2 million tokens, doubling the previous maximum limit. This enhancement positions Gemini 1.5 Pro as the commercially available model with the largest input support. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, shared the significance of Gemini, stating, “Today, all of our 2-billion user products use Gemini … More than 1.5 million developers use Gemini models across our tools … We’ve also been bringing Gemini’s breakthrough capabilities across our products, in powerful ways.”

Google aims to make AI accessible and helpful to everyone, and Gemini’s multimodality, long context, and agents play a vital role in achieving this goal. The improved version of Gemini 1.5 Pro is now available to developers worldwide. Additionally, Gemini Advanced, which includes Gemini 1.5 Pro with 1 million context, is directly accessible to consumers and supports 35 languages.

In addition to Gemini, Pichai also introduced the company’s sixth-generation Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) called Trillium. Described as Google’s most performant and efficient TPU to date, Trillium will be available to Cloud customers in late 2024.
