22nd November 2024 – (New York) The number of cryptocurrency millionaires worldwide has seen a dramatic increase, according to a recent report by New World Wealth and Henley & Partners. The 2024 figures reveal a 95% rise in crypto millionaires, totalling 172,300 globally. Additionally, the number of crypto billionaires has grown by 27%, now reaching a total of 28.
The substantial growth in the number of individuals with significant crypto wealth reflects the continuing allure and potential profitability of cryptocurrencies. Despite the volatile nature of the market, many early adopters and new entrants alike have found substantial success. The report highlights that most of the new billionaires and a large proportion of millionaires have made their fortunes thanks to strategic investments in Bitcoin and emerging cryptocurrencies.
The report also sheds light on the geographical spread and diverse strategies of crypto millionaires. Many of these individuals are not just passive holders of cryptocurrencies; they are actively involved in trading, and some are key players in the burgeoning field of decentralized finance (DeFi). This sector allows them to leverage their assets to generate passive income through mechanisms such as lending and liquidity provision.
Moreover, the report points out the pivotal role of technological innovation and regulatory environments in fostering this wealth growth. The introduction of Bitcoin ETFs and other crypto financial instruments has been instrumental in attracting institutional investors, which has further buoyed the market. As of the latest data, the total market value of crypto assets has surged to $2.43 trillion.
Among the notable crypto billionaires is Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, who began his career as a senior software developer at Bitfinex in 2014. Ardoino’s leadership has been crucial in expanding Tether’s offerings and enhancing its blockchain infrastructure, bringing his net worth to an estimated $3.9 billion. Other leading figures include Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, who has been a prominent advocate of Bitcoin, and Brian Armstrong, the founder and CEO of Coinbase, which is one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges globally.
The report also highlights the broader economic impact of the crypto boom. As digital currencies become more integrated with traditional financial systems, they are beginning to reshape global finance. This integration is evidenced by the increasing number of traditional financial entities engaging with cryptocurrencies, either through investment or by offering crypto-related services.
Moreover, the growth of crypto wealth has significant implications for global mobility and investment migration. Many high-net-worth individuals in the crypto space are seeking to diversify their residency and citizenship portfolios, driving demand for programs that offer favourable regulatory and tax environments for crypto investors.
