Giant sleeping cats installation to make Asia debut at Hong Kong’s WestK FunFest

12th March 2026 – (Hong Kong) A sprawling outdoor art installation featuring giant sleeping cats is set to make its Asian debut at the WestK FunFest in Hong Kong, inviting visitors to pause and connect with the soothing creatures.

The third edition of the West Kowloon Cultural District’s family-oriented festival will run from 19th March to 12th April, spanning the Easter holiday period and presenting over 100 diverse programmes. A centrepiece of this year’s event is “The Cats that Slept for a Thousand Years,” an immersive work by renowned U.K. creative studio Air Giants.

First commissioned by the Manchester Museum, the installation blends sound, light and tactile interaction and has earned international acclaim. For its Hong Kong showcase, the original 10-metre-long giant cat has been expanded into a family of three, specially curated for FunFest. Visitors are invited to cuddle up to or gently stroke the cats, triggering soothing purrs and rhythmic heartbeats designed to encourage moments of calm amid urban life.

The installation will be displayed on the Harbourside East Lawn at the Art Park, free of charge, from 19th March to 7th April. Opening hours are 2pm to 8pm on weekdays, and noon to 8pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

To extend the artistic experience into the community, FunFest has partnered with shopping mall ELEMENTS for the first time, featuring three identical “mini versions” of the installation at the mall from 19th March to 12th April.
