Four persons were sentenced by the Magistrates’ Courts for violating anti-epidemic regulations

15th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) Four persons were sentenced by the Magistrates’ Courts today for violating the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulation (Cap. 599A) or the Compulsory Quarantine of Certain Persons Arriving at Hong Kong Regulation (Cap. 599C).

 The first two cases involved a 61-year-old woman and a 47-year-old woman who earlier tested positive for COVID-19 and were issued with isolation orders. Before the end of the isolation period, the 61-year-old woman left the place of isolation on 13th August last year, whereas the 47 year-old woman left the place of isolation and removed her electronic wristband on 7th August last year. The 61-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 32(1) and (3) of Cap. 599A and was fined $5,000 by the Fanling Magistrates’ Courts today. The 47-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 23(1), (4) and (5) and sections 32(1) and (3) of Cap. 599A and was fined a total of $5,000 by the Fanling Magistrates’ Courts today.

  The other two cases involved a 24-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, who were earlier issued with compulsory quarantine orders. Before the expiry of the quarantine orders, they left the place of quarantine on 9th September last year and 1st October, 2021, respectively. The 24-year-old man was charged with contravening sections 22(1), (4) and (6) of Cap. 599A and was fined $10,000 by the Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts today. The 49-year-old woman was charged with contravening sections 8(1) and (5) of Cap. 599C and was fined $5,000 by the Fanling Magistrates’ Courts today.
