10th September 2026 – (Seoul) Seoul Gangnam Police Station has confirmed it received a complaint on 26th August alleging that former BIGBANG singer Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, assaulted a man in his thirties at a restaurant, and is still piecing together what happened.

Korean outlets reported the claim on Thursday. According to Yonhap News Agency, the accusation is special assault. A police source said investigators have not yet questioned the complainant and will look further into how the dispute arose. The Chosun Ilbo said the alleged beating took place while Seungri was dining at an establishment in Gangnam-gu.

The filing revives scrutiny of a star who left the stage under a cloud. Seungri debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 and rose as one of K-pop’s most visible faces before the Burning Sun nightclub scandal that erupted around 2019 cast him as a central figure. Prosecutors later pursued nine charges, including introducing prostitution and embezzlement; a South Korean court sentenced him to one year and six months in prison. He was released in 2023 after serving that term.

Special assault is the label Korean media attach to the restaurant complaint, a graver category than ordinary battery under local criminal practice, and police are treating it as a live inquiry rather than a closed rumour. Until officers interview the man in his thirties who lodged the complaint, and put the detailed circumstances on record, Seungri remains only an accused party entitled to the presumption of innocence.

For now the public facts are narrow but firm: a Gangnam restaurant meal, an alleged assault on a man in his thirties, a special-assault complaint accepted on 26th August by Seoul Gangnam Police Station, and confirmation that the case is open while the complainant has yet to be examined — three years after the former idol walked free from the Burning Sun sentence that ended his boy-band career.
