29th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a recent incident that has raised concerns about hygiene practices in households, a foreign domestic helper was found washing dishes in the kitchen sink along with a trash bin. When questioned about it, she explained that the bin was not too dirty and had a garbage bag cover, so it was not a problem to wash dishes alongside it.
However, the employer pointed out that there were still utensils and plates used for meals during the quarantine period. The helper responded by stating that the garbage in the bin was mostly from food scraps and leftovers from the dishes, so it was not a big deal.
When the employer further raised concerns about the hygiene aspect of the helper’s actions, she suggested that the helper should eat in the bathroom instead, as the toilet was also connected to the same plumbing system and had the same source of food waste.
This incident has caused a stir on social media, with many netizens expressing their concerns about the hygiene practices of foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Some have called for stricter regulations and guidelines to be put in place to ensure that domestic helpers are properly trained and educated about hygiene practices.
