2nd June 2023 – (Singapore) Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and football superstar, made a brief appearance at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on Friday, 2nd June, where he was surrounded by fans who ran alongside his buggy as he rode into the gardens. Ronaldo is in Singapore to support a series of youth scholarships established by his long-time friend and philanthropist Peter Lim. Among them is the NParks-Peter Lim Scholarship, which aims to help less privileged youths pursue their interests, develop their skills, and build capability in the landscaping, horticulture, ecology, veterinary, and animal science sectors.
At the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Ronaldo met with scholarship recipients from the Institute of Technical Education for a group photo. On Saturday, he will meet about 1,000 youths in support of the Singapore Olympic Foundation (SOF)-Peter Lim Scholarship.
This is Ronaldo’s fourth visit to Singapore in the last 10 years and his first since the COVID-19 pandemic. The scholarship programs he is supporting are aimed at providing opportunities for less privileged youths to pursue their passions and dreams, build their capabilities, and contribute to society. Ronaldo’s involvement in these programs highlights the importance of giving back to the community and supporting the next generation.
In a statement, Ronaldo said that he was proud to support the scholarships and to be able to contribute to the development of young people in Singapore. He added that he believes in the importance of education and the power of sports to inspire and empower young people to achieve their dreams.
