Firefighter and security guard, 2 of 9 victims injured during fire at Regal Crest in Mid-Levels 2 days ago in critical condition


24th January 2023 – (Hong Kong) At around 12.01pm two days ago, fire broke out in a unit at Regal Crest, No.5- 9 Robinson Road, Mid-Levels. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene after receiving the report. 9 injured victims in total in the fire were sent to the hospital, including a firefighter. The cause of the fire in the unit is yet to be investigated. The fire was upgraded to No. 3 alarm at 1.24pm. The fire was surrounded at 2.20pm, put under control at 2.39pm. It was largely put out at 3.43pm.

Among the victims , a fire chief (30 years old) and a male security guard surnamed Chung (60 years old) felt unwell after inhaling heavy smoke, and the two semi-conscious victims were sent to Queen Mary Hospital for emergency treatment. As of 11pm last night (23rd), the two were in critical condition.

70 people evacuated by themselves during the incident, and it took nearly 4 hours for firefighters to put out the fire. It is suspected that the unit’s karaoke machine was short-circuited, and flames burst out and burned the curtains, causing a fire.
