Fire breaks out in Yau Oi Estate, prompting evacuation and firefighting efforts

24th November 2023 – (Hong Kong) At 10.44am today, a fire erupted in a unit at Oi Tak House, 1 Oi Tak Lane, Yau Oi Estate in Tuen Mun. Flames and thick smoke billowed out of the windows, reaching into the sky, alarming several residents who promptly reported the incident. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, deploying a ladder and directing streams of water to extinguish the blaze. Additionally, search and rescue teams were dispatched to assist in the evacuation of residents from the building.

During the fire, a batch of clothing on an external clothes drying rack near the affected unit was also engulfed in flames, causing debris to fall onto the clothes racks of the lower floors and affecting adjacent units. One domestic worker from the unit where the fire originated felt unwell and was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
