Fire breaks out in Toi Fung House, Fung Tak Estate, Wong Tai Sin, over fifty residents evacuated


17th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) In the early hours of today, a fire incident occurred at Toi Fung House in Fung Tak Estate, Wong Tai Sin, resulting in the evacuation of over fifty residents. Reports from multiple residents indicated smoke emerging from a unit on the 24th floor, triggering the building’s fire alarm. Among those evacuated was a male resident who relied on a walking cane due to mobility issues.

Upon receiving the emergency call, the Fire Services Department swiftly dispatched a team equipped with breathing apparatus to combat the blaze. The fire was promptly extinguished, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The male occupant of the affected unit, who was not present at the time, has been notified to assist with the investigation into the cause of the fire. It is revealed that the unit was undergoing renovation work, with scaffolding erected on the exterior walls.

Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances behind the incident. As the affected unit was unoccupied during the time of the fire, the focus of the investigation will be on the renovation activities being carried out.
