9th December 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has announced the suspension of operations at the Hung Hom Market Cooked Food Centre following a fire incident this morning. A spokesperson for the department confirmed that due to the fire, the Centre will not be operational tonight.
The incident occurred at approximately 11.20am when a fire broke out at one of the stalls in the Hung Hom Market Cooked Food Centre. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames within 30 minutes. However, one male staff member from the affected stall suffered minor injuries and was subsequently transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
In response to the incident, the Architectural Services Department (ArchSD) and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) promptly dispatched their officers to conduct necessary repairs. As a precautionary measure, the ArchSD and EMSD officers thoroughly inspected the electrical and mechanical equipment within the Cooked Food Centre. It is anticipated that the Centre will resume its normal business operations tomorrow.
