Fire at broken power transmission bridge in Yuen Long put out at around 9pm, CLP apologies to customers as repair is underway (Updated: 9.35pm)


21st June 2022 – (Hong Kong) At about 7.12pm today, a power transmission bridge reportedly belonging to CLP on Kwong Yik Street, Yuen Long caught fire. Many residents said that there was a widespread power outage in Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai. After receiving the report, the fire department rushed to the transmission bridge to put out the fire. It is understood that due to the fire at the scene, suspected explosions were heard, the transmission bridge that caught fire collapsed in the middle and broke off in two.

Due to the intense fire, the power transmission bridge was also severely damaged. The fire alarm attracted a large number of onlookers. The fire at MTR Long Ping Station in Yuen Long was subsequently put out at about 9pm and no one was injured. The Fire Services Department said that power outages may occur in the affected areas, and citizens are advised to avoid taking lifts. If the public is affected by the smoke or odour, they are reminded to shut their doors and windows and keep calm.

CLP said that the fire broke out at the power transmission bridge near No. 8 Wang Lok Street, Yuen Long and the incident affected the power supply in Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun. No one was injured in the incident. CLP sincerely apologised to the affected customers. CLP is carrying out emergency repairs and will give priority to emergency services such as hospitals and railways.
