12th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Two days ago at the Harbour Plaza Resort City in Tin Shui Wai, a mainland Chinese businessman was abducted and forced to transfer cryptocurrency worth approximately HK$78,300 to settle a financial dispute. The ordeal ended with a dramatic police rescue operation on Wednesday night, leading to the arrest of four men, some reportedly having ties to the Wo Shing Wo triad.

The episode began when the 30-year-old victim, who is involved in the catering industry, met a local man, referred to only as Chan, aged 30, through a cryptocurrency trading group on Telegram. Their business dealings turned sour earlier this month over a dispute involving around HK$80,000.

On the day of the incident, the businessman and a friend were touring Hong Kong when Chan requested a meeting to discuss their financial disagreement. The two met Chan at his hotel room on Tin Yan Road, hoping to resolve the issue amicably. However, the meeting took an unexpected turn when six additional men barged into the room, seizing the victim’s travel documents and preventing both him and his friend from leaving.

One of the intruders brandished a plastic baton and declared his affiliation with the Wo Shing Wo triad based in Tsuen Wan, threatening physical harm. Under duress, the victim transferred 10,000 units of Tether, equivalent to about HK$78,300, to Chan’s digital wallet. During this tense moment, the victim secretly messaged a friend in mainland China via WeChat, urging them to contact the police.

Hong Kong police responded swiftly to the distress call and arrived at the scene, arresting four men, including Chan. Initially, it was understood that Chan did not have any triad connections; however, the other three detainees were identified as active members of the Wo Shing Wo triad. The authorities are continuing to search for three more suspects who managed to flee the scene.
