4th May 2021 – (Hong Kong) Fearing a recurrence of a local infection involving foreign domestic helplers, Tsuen Wan District Councillor Chiu Yan Loy stated on his Facebook page that he received a notification from the Department of Health this morning (4th) that a Filipino domestic helper in Block R of Allway Gardens has been diagnosed with COVID-19. She was sent to the quarantine centre and the management office has closed the No. 2 lift of Block R until the disinfection is completed.
Chiu pointed out that according to his knowledge, the Filipino domestic helper arrived in Hong Kong at the end of March and she has undergone at least 5 virus testing. During the 21-day hotel quarantine and 5 virus tests, the domestic helper was not infected. It is currently unknown whether the foreign domestic helper was infected with the mutant virus. She works for a family of four and she was sent to the quarantine centre this morning.
Chiu is also checking with the Civil Affairs Department whether there is a need for compulsory testing or quarantine of the entire building. In addition, Chiu pointed out that the Department of Health provided him with the domestic helper’s case number 11791, which is expected to be announced as soon as later today. According to the figures released by the Centre for Health Protection yesterday (3rd), there were a total of 11,787 cases in Hong Kong. The Department of Health is conducting genome sequencing of the virus to confirm whether the domestic helper has a variant virus.
