23rd November 2023 – (Hong Kong) A taxi reportedly crashed into a railing in what is suspected to be a case of the driver applying the wrong pedal. The vehicle was carrying a passenger at the time of the accident, which occurred around 11.19pm on the 22nd of November, causing minor injuries to the female passenger on board.
The taxi was making its way along On Lok Road, turning into Tai Kiu Road, when the driver is believed to have mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while navigating the turn. The vehicle surged forward, causing approximately 6 metres of the metal railing to be destroyed before it came to a halt on the pedestrian walkway. The front of the taxi sustained significant damage in the mishap.
A 49-year-old female passenger was injured by shattered fragments during the incident. The 40-year-old taxi driver, surnamed Kwok, promptly reported the accident and requested assistance. Upon receiving the report, rescue personnel arrived at the scene.
After receiving immediate first aid treatment for her wounds, the female passenger did not require hospitalisation. Meanwhile, Mr. Kwok cooperated with the authorities on site, assisting them in piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the accident and determining its cause.
