30th May 2023 – (Hong Kong) A female hiker and her friends were caught by surprise by big waves while hiking along the Ap Lei Pai trail in Aberdeen at around 12.55pm today. The woman was swept into the sea and two male hikers jumped into the water to rescue her.
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department immediately dispatched a rescue boat to the scene after receiving a report of the incident. The rescue team was able to save all three hikers from the water, but the female hiker was found unconscious.
After being brought to shore, the three hikers were taken to the hospital for treatment by ambulance. The woman was subsequently certified dead.
