Fatal clash leaves three dead and several injured in Istanbul

24th May 2024 – (Istanbul) A violent clash between two groups in Istanbul, Türkiye’s largest city, resulted in the death of three individuals and left five others wounded on Thursday. The incident unfolded at a café located in the bustling Uksudar district on the Asian side of the city, according to a press release from the Istanbul governor’s office.

The confrontation, which occurred at approximately 8 p.m. local time (1700 GMT), originated from a dispute between the two groups and quickly escalated into an armed clash, the press release stated. Tragically, three people lost their lives as a result of the violent altercation.

The Istanbul governor’s office disclosed that two of the wounded individuals are currently in critical condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash.

Reports from Turkish television news channels indicated that approximately 40 people were involved in the confrontation. Several video clips, widely circulated on the social media platform X, depicted the presence of police cordoning off the street to ensure enhanced security measures while investigation units conducted their examination.
