Fake Starbucks Instant Coffee found in major grocery stores in Nanjing, China

17th March 2019 – (Jiangsu, China) A few established grocery chains in China such as BHG Market Place have been found to be selling counterfeit ‘Starbucks Via Instant Coffee’ products at their stores. Spokesperson from Starbucks China responded that they have never authorised any manufacturers in China to product these products. The counterfeit products were found by police to be produced in Guangzhou.

These fake counterfeit coffee products made their way to all the major grocery stores in China and generated a total revenue of over 10 million renminbi (HK$11.7m equivalent). The 3-in-1 Starbucks Latte is sold at a cost of between 39.8 to 46.8 Renminbi (HK$46.5 to HK$54.7 equivalent) each.

The packaging looks almost identical to the actual products complete with certificate of authenticity watermark.
