10th August 2019 – (Hong Kong) It is mind boggling for police and Hong Kongers as to how flash mob protesters could appear in so many locations within such a short span of time and in a highly organised manner. We reported on 9th August that protesters have created multiple chat groups for the purpose of communication amongst them during protests and street rallies. However, those groups were just tip of the iceberg before we discovered several more Telegram groups used by front line protesters to plan and co-ordinate attacks akin to warfare strategies.
These radical frontline protesters are not your average university student protesters as they have developed real time maps showing real time locations of moving police, fast moving police, parked police locations, warning flags, first aid stations, supplies, areas surrounded by total number of riot police below or above 30, Special Tactical Police. Warnings of tear gas are also issued real time. Blocked roads are also shown on the real time map.
Constant message updates, pictures and other essential information were also uploaded within the Telegram chat group by fellow protesters.
One of the Telegram groups, ‘Scott Scout’ has a total of 125,524 members. Constant real time updates are shared amongst protesters to warn them about the locations and total number of riot police etc.
