Ex-Ukrainian spy accuses Kyiv of orchestrating attempt on his life in Moscow

Former Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) employee Vasily Prozorov

13th April 2024 – (Kyiv) Former Ukrainian intelligence officer Vasily Prozorov has survived what he claims was an assassination attempt orchestrated by Kiev, following a car explosion in northern Moscow, according to reports from Russia’s TASS news agency on Friday.

Prozorov, who was slightly injured in the incident, stated emphatically, “Kyiv is behind the assassination attempt. But it didn’t work out. I am alive and well and will continue to expose the crimes of the Ukrainian authorities.” The explosion occurred on the bustling Korovinskoye Highway in the early hours of this morning. Although Prozorov’s vehicle was severely damaged, remarkably, it did not catch fire. The blast also affected several nearby cars, further evidence of the potentially lethal nature of the attack.

The former security officer worked for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) from 1999 until 2018, spending some of those years at the central office of the SBU in the headquarters of the anti-terrorist centre. Prozorov came into the limelight in March 2019, just before the Ukrainian presidential elections, when he held a press conference in Russia. During the conference, he disclosed what he claimed were illicit activities of the SBU between 2014 and 2018, drawing international attention and controversy.
